Chenming Hu
Chenming Hu is TSMC Distinguished Professor at UC Berkeley, and was formerly the Chief Technology Officerof TSMC.
The IEEE has called Professor Hu a “Microelectronics Visionary” with “achievementscritical to producing smaller yet more reliable and higher-performance integrated circuits”.He is well known for leading the development of BSIM and FinFET. BSIM is the first internationalstandard MOSFET model and has been used by IC companies worldwide to design ICs worth hundreds ofbillions of dollars since 1997. FinFET, the 3D transistor, has been used in IC production since2011 and can be scaled to single-digit nm.
Professor Hu has been honored with memberships in the national academies of the US, China, and Taiwan;the IEEE AndrewGrove Award, Solid State Circuits Award and Nishizawa Medal; and UCBerkeley’s highest honor for teaching–the Berkeley Distinguished Teaching Award.
